Geppo the Driver

Moto laverda anno 1981He was born in Volterra the 18th of July, 1960. His career in the motorcycle racing world began with motorcycle in the Italian Championship of the Mountain. In1980, when he was 19 years old, he ran and also won the first race of his long career. 1980 was a great sport year: he won all the eight races he ran off and became the Tuscan champion of the Mountain of 125cc. class.

In 1982 he raced on tracks fighting for the victory in the Italian Championship until the end and gaining, thanks to the good results at Mugello, Misano, Monza and Vallelunga circuits, the official motorcycle TM Pesaro for the last two races and a good position in the final ranking. In 1983, Geppo is supported by the official Laverda, managed by Team Tanino of Florence, in the Italian Championship TT2 Class (600cc.). He would have been vice-champion at the end of the championship: he won at Varano and Magione circuits where he established the record setting and ran the fastest laps of the race. He didn’t win the Championship because of some withdrawings due to motorcycle breaks nothwithstanding many podiums in the remaining races. In 1984 he ran in the pro circuit thanks to the results of the previous year. Team Italia (managed by Federazione Motociclistica Italiana) provided him a Yamaha motorcycle for the European Championship 250cc. His championship and career came to an end because of a serious accident at Mugello circuit.

Subaru ImprezaTwelve years after that day, when he was 36, Giampaolo came back to the races, but with four-wheeled vehicles. His dream lived through three victories and great results again in the following years. After that, Giampaolo Vannini, like all the full-blooded drivers, decided to pursue new challenging goals: he took part to the Tuscan and to the Italian Championship of the Mountain supported by the multi-awarded Papini Team.
